That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men ...

A short message to all who voted for oppression:

If you love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen. — Samuel Adams

Updates, March 2021

I haven't updated this site since late 2008. Meh. Things have gotten only worse since then. I recently had reason to look over the blogroll here, and decided to update it. Many old friends have either stopped writing, or moved to social media. And there are some additions.

It seems a bit odd to keep this little signpost on the web up after 12 years of doing nothing with it. But it costs me almost nothing, and if anyone is visiting, maybe they'll find the links in the sidebar useful.

Hi folks. Well, here I am using a temporary static page, as a last resort while I figure out where to go for blog hosting. I can't completely fault Verve, because they simply don't offer shared hosting that works correctly with WordPress. Not sure why that is, but it's their business decision. I just wish I'd been able to find that out before buying hosting from them. They're issuing a 100% refund.

After spending a lot of frustrating time trying to get Midphase to fix my account, and then thinking I had things finally worked out to be up and running again with Verve, only to run into a wall, I'm going to just take some time off while I think about where to go next. If VPS hosting weren't so expensive, I'd just do that. I won't go with Blogger, or some other free service, as I want more control over my site. I did call up one hosting company on the phone to inquire as to how they set up shared hosting to ensure privilege seperation between accounts, and the guy on the phone didn't know, but checked with the supposed über techs, who gave him some craptastic answer about using a static IP address and a non-standard port. Somehow, I thought it'd be easy to get a straightforward answer to a question about what is already a solved problem in the shared hosting industry. I guess not.

Anyways, I scraped off my front page and converted it to a static site, with just enough stuff to have it display correctly. And that's what this is. I haven't any idea when I'll be back to blogging. Maybe it was just time for a break anyway.

I'll leave you with one thought, triggered by the recent news of the gub'mint taking over the financial markets.

FAIL

This message of failure is quite clear in my mind. But here are some links explaining it:

  • The dawn of the end of Freedom
  • Also from Donald Sensing are two contrasting images, the top one being what could be, and the bottom what will be, if we allow the government to continue to act as the controller of the financial markets. A Tale of Two Insitutions
  • I think the link JR has here is duplicated in Rev. Sensing's posts, but I'll repeat it anyway. The Suicide of Capitalism; I won't call it a suicide. Capitalism, left alone, will thrive. Let's not mince words here -- the government is dealing it the death of a thousand cuts.

And, in the mean time, does it look to anyone else as if police departments are gearing up for war? I guess they need all that military hardware, seeing as how we're all going to be labeled as terrorists, one way or the other -- at least those of us who dare not to kowtow to our new financial overlords.

Hell, handbasket ...

So, I guess I'll just cling to my guns and ammo, and ride it out for a while. Can't think of what else to do in the short term.
